First SGM National Chapter Leaders Training Course
(Day Two): Learning from the Pioneers, Embarking on an “I Seek Sensei” Journey

On 27 June 2026, the second day of the National Chapter Leaders Training Course, 160 chapter leaders continued their programme in Kuala Lumpur. Through pioneer members’ experiences and an “I Seek Sensei” training, participants deepened their mentor-disciple spirit and strengthened their resolve to protect the Soka Gakkai and usher in a new era of kosen-rufu.

The chapter leaders first visited the Kuala Lumpur Members Service Centre (KLMSC), where they listened to accounts from pioneering members. The session was moderated by Setapak zone young women’s division vice-leader Tan Yan Le. SGM vice-general directors Pang Chok Wai and Ow Yin Peng, together with SGM women’s division vice-leader Kok Kam Ying, shared how they first encountered SGM, their struggles and growth during their youth, and their experiences in helping to develop the organisation. Their personal accounts enabled participants to look back on the early years of kosen-rufu in Malaysia and draw courage from the pioneers’ efforts.

The three senior leaders unanimously encouraged participants to treasure their youth, inherit the pioneering spirit, deepen their study of the Buddhist teachings, and, with an unwavering mentor-disciple spirit, protect the organisation while advancing the movement for peace, culture and education.

Participants then visited Wisma Kebudayaan SGM (WKSGM) to embark on an “I Seek Sensei” journey. They toured the Mentor and Disciple Room on the 10th floor and viewed exhibits commemorating President Ikeda’s two visits to Malaysia, further deepening their mentor-disciple spirit and renewing their vow for kosen-rufu. They also took part in a “Tracing the Mentor’s Footsteps” programme at the SGM Culture Centre, retracing the routes and locations visited by President Ikeda during his visits in 1988 and 2000, thereby gaining a deeper appreciation of the history and development of kosen-rufu.

Through listening to the pioneers’ experiences, retracing the mentor’s footsteps and exchanging what they had learnt with one another, participants further strengthened their faith, deepened the spirit of oneness of mentor and disciple, and renewed their determination to fulfil the mission of advancing kosen-rufu in a new era.
