Rising Young Lions, Soaring Higher than Ever – SGM Martial Arts Group Celebrates 39th Anniversary
On 10 May 2026, the Young Lions Martial Arts (YLMA) group held its 39th anniversary commemorative event at the SGM Culture Centre, with a total of 91 participants in attendance. This year also marked 16 years since President Ikeda bestowed the “Young Lion Martial Arts” name on the group.
The event commenced with opening remarks by YLMA leader Lee Khai Woon, who pointed out that 3 May symbolises the origins of both the Soka Gakkai and the YLMA. He encouraged members to keep their mission firmly in mind and continue advancing kosen-rufu and fostering youth development.
This was followed by Kam Chun Wah relating his experience of transforming from an introverted and uncertain person to one who gradually grew through his training in the group and SGM. He shared that taking on challenges taught him not to shy away from difficulties, but to face them with courage.
During the sharing session, graduating members Low Xiu Theng and Lee Weng Kin reflected on their many years in the group. Despite the sadness of leaving, they encouraged members to continue challenging themselves with the spirit of “many in body, one in mind,” and to further develop the group in order to foster more successors for the organisation.
Greater Kuala Lumpur young men’s division leader Lim Kok Hoe encouraged members to place importance on fostering successors and passing on responsibility to future generations, thereby laying a strong foundation for the group’s long-term growth.
The event unfolded in a warm and inspiring atmosphere, reflecting the group’s unity and its vision for continual growth.
