Art Talk Explores Bricolage Concept and 18-Year Journey of Satu: Creative Collective

In conjunction with the “Harmony: In Colours and Combinations” exhibition, an art talk titled “Kaedah ‘Bricolage’ dan 18 Tahun Satu: Creative Collective” was held at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM (WKSGM) on 20 June 2026, moderated by artist and illustrator Yasmeen Belfield, highlighting bricolage practice and the 18-year journey of Satu: Creative Collective.

Dr Elias Yamani Ismail, cofounder of the collective, introduced the concept of bricolage in art practice, referencing Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, while also emphasising the importance of strengthening art research in the Southeast Asian context. He explained that Satu: Creative Collective was established with the vision of bringing art closer to society by activating both public spaces and galleries.

He further outlined the collective’s evolving curatorial approach through projects in venues such as BookXcess outlets, museums and community spaces, aiming to broaden public engagement with art. He stressed that art should remain accessible beyond social class divisions, while noting the growing commercialisation of the contemporary art world. In the discussion, artist Ady Ezwan Nordin added that artists should remain faithful to their creative concepts and vision, rather than conforming to commercial pressures that shape artistic value and production.
