“Everything You Treasure” Exhibition Complements Razak Sensei Gallery Opening, Inspires Culture of Peace

On 6 August 2026, the 81st anniversary of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, the opening ceremony of the Razak Sensei Gallery at the National Education Museum of Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) was held at the university’s SITC Hall. 

The Razak Sensei Gallery commemorates the life and contributions of Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Hamid, affectionately known as Razak Sensei. He was the only known Malaysian survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. He later pursued further studies and taught at UPSI, becoming an educator dedicated to introducing Japanese history and culture to Malaysian students, while promoting friendship between Malaysia and Japan and advocating for peace.

Among those attending the opening were Japanese ambassador HE Noriyuki Shikata; UPSI vice-chancellor Prof Dato’ Dr Md Amin Md Taff; Razak Sensei’s son, Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Dzulkifli Abdul Razak; SGM president Johnny Ng and General Director Koh Sia Feai.

To mark the opening of the gallery, SGM presented the “Everything You Treasure – For a World Free of Nuclear Weapons” exhibition at the Sultan Abdul Jalil Shah campus of UPSI. The three-month exhibition opened on the same day and also features a set of posters on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which Prof Dzulkifli obtained from the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and subsequently donated to SGM.

In his welcome remarks, Prof Md Amin expressed his hope that the Razak Sensei Gallery would continue to strengthen academic and diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Japan. In his opening address, HE Shikata likewise expressed hope that the gallery would create new opportunities for collaboration between institutions in areas including education and cultural exchange.

Through the “Everything You Treasure” exhibition, SGM seeks to deepen public awareness of the devastating consequences of nuclear weapons and inspire more people, particularly young people, to take action towards building a peaceful world. SGM will continue working with educational institutions and organisations from various sectors to promote peace education, foster mutual understanding through dialogue and expand bonds of friendship, contributing to a lasting culture of peace for future generations.
