From January to April 2026, Soka International School Malaysia (SISM) conducted a series of briefing sessions across Penang, Perak, Johor, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Melaka. These sessions introduced parents and students to the school’s humanistic education philosophy, curriculum structure and campus life, drawing strong interest and active participation.
In the 24 April session at the SGM Melaka Culture Centre, SISM CEO and chairperson Michael Kok outlined the school’s student-centred, humanistic approach. He emphasised that SISM does not focus solely on examination performance, but also places importance on character development, value creation and life skills, aiming to foster individuals who lead fulfilling lives and contribute to society.
Subsequently, vice-principal Tan How Kian introduced the Cambridge International Secondary curriculum, as well as the upcoming Advanced Level (A-Level) programme to be launched in August. The programme offers 11 subjects and is expected to admit approximately 100 students, with applications opening in May. The school also highlighted that the A-Level curriculum will incorporate presentation training, encouraging students to actively express their views while developing communication and critical thinking skills.
In addition, SISM staff member Chun Yong Heng presented the school’s boarding arrangements, providing parents with a clearer understanding of students’ learning and daily living environment. During the parents sharing session, parents from Penang spoke about their child’s growth in learning attitude, confidence and independence, which resonated strongly with the audience.
The Q&A session was lively, with parents raising questions on the curriculum structure, pathways for further studies and boarding life, leading to active and engaging discussions.
This series of briefings enabled parents across various states to gain a more comprehensive understanding of SISM’s educational philosophy and curriculum planning. It also highlighted the school’s commitment to student-centred education and the cultivation of global citizens, offering valuable guidance for future academic choices.
