Sabah Soka Community Day Promotes Healthy Living

On 7 June 2026, SGM Sabah organised a Soka Community Day at its culture centre. The event attracted around 300 participants, including Soka friends, who gathered to learn about health through informative talks and diverse activities, while fostering closer ties within the neighbourhood.

Dr Yee Yi Ling and dietitian Fung Jin Yee from Queen Elizabeth Hospital were invited to speak on fall prevention for the elderly. Speaking on the topic “Stand Steady, Live Well,” Dr Yee explained the causes and preventive measures of falls among seniors. She emphasised that falling is not a normal part of ageing and that appropriate precautions should be tailored to different causes. She advised the elderly to wear non-slip shoes and maintain a clean, safe home environment. Furthermore, she demonstrated the correct way to respond after a fall and urged them to seek immediate medical attention when necessary.

Meanwhile, Jin Yee shared the importance of balanced nutrition in preventing falls under the theme “Nutrition and Fall, Let’s Find the Balance.” She pointed out that the elderly need to consume adequate protein, calcium, iron and fluids to maintain bone and muscle health. She added that if seniors experience a loss of appetite or insufficient nutritional intake, they should seek professional assistance from doctors and dietitians as early as possible.

In addition to the health talks, the event featured a children’s corner, a family photography booth, a games zone and a sustainability activities area. Through these diverse initiatives, the event successfully promoted the concepts of healthy living and happy families, fostering a warm and harmonious community spirit.
