Melaka Soka Community Day Promotes Reading Culture and Legal Awareness

On 19 April 2026, SGM Melaka held a Soka Community Day at its culture centre, attracting nearly 100 members and guests. The event combined reading promotion with a legal knowledge sharing session, offering a range of learning and exchange activities in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

The programme opened with a Soka Book Club session, where Lim Suat Lay from the SGM Publications Department shared the editorial philosophy and key features of COSMIC magazine. She explained that the publication centres on the life philosophy and encouragement of President Ikeda, and through diverse content such as editorials, special features, articles, serialisations and interviews, it inspires readers to gain insights from multiple perspectives and deepen their understanding of the mentor-disciple spirit.

This was followed by a presentation from Goh Lim Erng, also from the SGM Publications Department, who introduced the functions and usage of COSMIC Online. Using a mobile phone demonstration, she guided participants through the reading interface, including icons and audio features, enabling them to better appreciate the convenience and practicality of digital reading and experience its advantages first-hand.

Enhancing Understanding of Estate Planning through Learning

A legal seminar was then conducted by three lawyers from the SGM Justice Group – Wang Zhen Yuan, Lim Liyi and Low Ley Yeow – on the topic of “Wills and Estate Administration.” Through an engaging Q and A format, they explained key concepts such as the legal requirements for making a will, witness criteria and principles of estate distribution. They also highlighted that without a will, the estate administration process can become more complex and may give rise to disputes.

During the interactive Q and A session, participants actively raised questions based on real-life scenarios. Topics included amendments to wills, handling different types of assets, and the role of executors, further deepening attendees’ understanding of estate planning.
