SGM General Director Expounds on Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime

On 24 May 2026, SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai delivered a study lecture at the 5th SGM Headquarters Leaders Conference on the theme “Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime.” Held at the SGM Culture Centre, the session brought together leaders from across the country and was livestreamed, reaching over 3,100 participants nationwide.

Mr Koh first pointed out that the fundamental purpose of embracing and practising Nichiren Buddhism is to attain Buddhahood. He explained that attaining Buddhahood does not mean becoming a special or superhuman being, but rather manifesting the Buddha nature inherent in all people in the midst of daily life and establishing a state of absolute happiness unshaken by suffering.

He stressed that faith should not remain merely at the level of resolving immediate problems or seeking good fortune; rather, we should always regard “attaining Buddhahood in this lifetime” as the ultimate goal and continuously forge one’s life state through Buddhist practice. He encouraged participants not to be satisfied with their present circumstances, but to continue challenging themselves with higher life goals and carry out human revolution.

At the same time, he noted that on the path of Buddhist practice, difficulties and obstacles are inevitable; the key is not succumbing to adversity. Only by ceaselessly chanting daimoku and strengthening our faith to develop greater life force, while ceaselessly elevating our life condition through the great vow for kosen-rufu, can we truly achieve growth and transformation in life.

Through this study session, the leaders further reaffirmed the fundamental direction of faith and practice. They also resolved to courageously challenge their own human revolution with the spirit of oneness of mentor and disciple, and to continue advancing towards the goal of attaining Buddhahood in this lifetime through efforts for kosen-rufu.
