Young Women’s Division Celebrates 75th Anniversary of Friendship and Youthful Mission

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Soka Gakkai Young Women’s Division (YWD), SGM YWD members across Malaysia held a variety of commemorative activities throughout July 2026. Through study, dialogue and interactive activities, participants reaffirmed the spirit and mission of the YWD while strengthening the bonds of friendship by encouraging one another. They renewed their vow to ensure that not a single person is left behind on the path to happiness, and to create hope and peace through actions imbued with the spirit of youth.

Sabah

On 11 July, SGM Sabah’s Kota Kinabalu Region held a commemorative meeting at the SGM Sabah Culture Centre, with 20 participants. They sang songs, studied the five eternal guidelines of the YWD and held a book club session, deepening their understanding of their mission to practise faith, strive alongside President Ikeda and contribute to world peace. Five YWD members who had returned from the National Chapter Leaders Training Course shared their experiences, inspiring everyone to advance kosen-rufu. In closing, Sabah zone YWD leader Elaine Chia encouraged members to return to the five guidelines as their prime point and embark anew on a life of absolute victory.

Perak

On 18 July, SGM Perak held a YWD gathering at a homestay in Bercham, with some 75 participants. Through food, board games and heartfelt dialogue, participants celebrated the 75th anniversary while strengthening their bonds of friendship. Kaho Group members were also invited to join the gathering. They encouraged the YWD members to cherish the friendships and precious moments shared within the division, deepen their study of Buddhist teachings and grow together by supporting one another, while reaffirming their determination to remain committed to the Soka Gakkai throughout their lives.

Johor

SGM Johor celebrated YWD Day through a variety of activities.

On 18 July, South 1 Zone held a celebration at the SGM Horizon Hills Centre, with 35 YWD members and three new friends participating. Through games, afternoon tea, study and handicraft activities, participants interacted with one another while learning about the five eternal guidelines of the YWD.

The following day, on 19 July, SKP Region held a friendship-themed youth division treasure hunt at Mutiara Rini Urban Forest, with around 50 participants. Working in teams, participants searched for clues and collected puzzle pieces before assembling them to form the word “Friendship.” Through the challenges, they experienced the importance of cooperation and mutual support while strengthening their bonds through laughter.

Selangor

On 18 July, SGM Selangor held YWD gatherings at the regional level. Among them, 35 members of the Bunga Raya Group gathered at the SGM Selangor Culture Centre, with the five eternal guidelines of the YWD serving as the focus of their study. Particular emphasis was placed on the fourth guideline, “Engage in dialogue to foster friendship and humanistic ideals.” Through group discussions, members reflected on their own experiences and resolved to initiate dialogue with warmth, sincerity and courage, bringing hope to those around them.

Kedah

On 18 July, SGM Kedah held a YWD Day commemorative meeting at its culture centre, with more than 45 participants. The programme explored the history and significance of the division, while sharing sessions, group discussions, games and handicraft activities provided opportunities for members to deepen their connections with one another.

During the sharing session, participants were encouraged to proactively reach out to those around them, inspire and encourage others through dialogue, and put the actions of genuine disciples into practice in their daily lives. With the aim of inheriting the great vow for kosen-rufu, the YWD members resolved to move forward together towards a new beginning.

Sarawak

On 25 July, SGM Sarawak held a commemorative gathering themed “Be the Protagonist of Your Own World” at its culture centre, with over 20 participants. Through group discussions, participants reflected on their own mission through topics such as dreams, hopes and the future. Handicraft activities and dialogue further strengthened their bonds of friendship.

In closing, zone YWD leader Tan Swam Ting encouraged everyone to strengthen their faith, challenge themselves courageously and create hope from within their own lives, becoming protagonists of the 21st century.

Kuala Lumpur North

On 25 July, Kuala Lumpur North’s Kelana Jaya Region held a commemorative meeting at the SGM Mayang Jaya Centre, with 12 YWD members participating. They studied the history of YWD Day and the significance of its 75th anniversary, deepening their understanding of the division’s spirit and mission.

Through the board game Saboteur, participants reflected on the challenges and obstacles encountered in life, gaining insights into the wisdom, unity and perseverance needed to overcome them, as well as the importance of supporting one another and moving forward together.

Although the activities held across the country took different forms, they shared the same purpose of deepening participants’ sense of mission through study and strengthening bonds of friendship through dialogue. With firm actions imbued with youthful spirit, YWD members will strive to fulfil their mission and advance together towards a peaceful future.
