Student Division Akademeia Training Strengthens Mentor-Disciple Spirit

On 13 and 14 June 2026, the SGM Student Division Akademeia Training Course was held at the SGM Culture Centre and Wisma Kebudayaan SGM, attended by approximately 100 participants. Through study sessions, experience sharing, interactive activities and encouragement from seniors, student division members deepened their understanding of the mentor-disciple spirit and renewed their determination to become pioneers of kosen-rufu.

SGM student division leader Koo Yee Heng explained that “Akademeia” symbolises wisdom, dialogue and the fostering of capable individuals. During the training course, participants studied the “Young Eagles” chapter of The New Human Revolution and engaged in interactive discussions and quizzes, reaffirming the mission of the student division as pioneers of kosen-rufu. Three student division members also shared their experiences of overcoming challenges in furthering their studies, academic life and preparations for the “Seeds of Hope and Action” (SoHA) exhibition.

SGM vice-general director Dr Christopher Boey encouraged the participants to recognise the vital role of youth in bringing hope to society amid an increasingly uncertain world. He noted that to inspire hope in others, one must first possess hope oneself. Such hope, he explained, is cultivated through prayer, study, dialogue and advancing together with President Ikeda, fellow members and the organisation. He also encouraged the participants to transform difficulties into value through chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and to bring courage and hope to others through their daily lives.

Young women’s student division member Nicole Tan resolved to contribute to society through what she had learnt and to stand at the forefront of kosen-rufu by challenging herself to introduce Buddhism to a new friend. Another young women’s student division member Charmaine Ong expressed her determination to support and encourage younger successors and to remain steadfast in the organisation.
