SGM Presents Seal to Commemorate Seikyo Shimbun’s 75th Anniversary

20 April 2026 marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Seikyo Shimbun. To commemorate the occasion, SGM presented a specially engraved seal as a sincere expression of congratulations and best wishes.

The seal bears the inscription “A Beacon to the World,” symbolising the Seikyo Shimbun’s enduring mission of illuminating the world through the power of words. It was created by Dr Low Cheong Sin, president of Malaysia Seal Carving Association and Overseas Member of China’s Xiling Seal Art Society, demonstrating a remarkably high level of artistic accomplishment.

The artwork adopts the composition style of ancient seal script, presenting a bold yet refined arrangement with a strong classical character. In his side inscription, Dr Low explained: “‘鐙’, as defined in the Chinese dictionary Shuowen Jiezi, denotes ‘lamp.’ The form was adopted in its modern shape to accord with ancient seal composition and spatial balance. The character ‘鐙’ rendered in flipped horizontal form, bearing the sense of return and dedication.” His thoughtful craftsmanship imbues the work with profound humanistic meaning.

As the official newspaper of the Soka Gakkai, the Seikyo Shimbun has consistently upheld its mission as a humanistic newspaper, striving to convey courage and hope to its readers. The newspaper currently has a daily circulation of 5.5 million copies, with its digital edition reaching readers in over 200 countries and territories worldwide. Together with dozens of sister publications published across the five continents – including SGM’s monthly magazine COSMIC – it continues to spread messages of peace, culture and humanity around the globe.

Located in Shinanomachi, Tokyo, the World Seikyo Centre, the “bastion of the pen,” was officially opened on 18 November 2019. It serves as the Seikyo Shimbun office, and its ground floor is open to the public.
The “Seikyo Shimbun – The Triumph of Mentor and Disciple” monument stands at the ground floor entrance of the World Seikyo Centre, bearing the original Japanese text inscribed by President Ikeda and an English translation.
