SGM Photography Group Exchange Programme – Cultural and Street Photography Exploration in UNESCO Heritage City of Melaka
From 30 May to 1 June 2026, the SGM Photographers Group Exchange Programme was held in Melaka. Forty-four photographers from nine states gathered in the UNESCO World Heritage city for a three-day, two-night learning and exchange centred on the theme “People, Emotion and Light.”
Melaka’s rich historical heritage, multicultural character and vibrant human landscape provided an ideal setting for photographic creativity. Throughout the programme, SGM youth members served as models at various locations, assisting photographers in their fieldwork as they captured the city’s unique atmosphere and human stories through their lenses.
On the final day, a photo-sharing session was held. Participants each selected a representative work and shared the ideas and experiences behind their photographs. The session highlighted the diverse perspectives and interpretations that emerged from the same scenes, while offering inspiration through mutual learning and appreciation.
SGM vice-general director Chia Kok Peng was also present to show his support. He expressed his gratitude to photographers nationwide for their long-standing dedication in recording the history of SGM’s kosen-rufu movement with faith as their foundation. Quoting President Ikeda’s words, “Photography is an art born of a passionate love of humanity,” he encouraged all participants to become photographers of human revolution and to contribute towards the advancement of kosen-rufu in Malaysia.
Through this exchange programme, photographers enhanced their technical skills, strengthened cooperation and camaraderie, and furthered the growth of the photography group, which plays a vital role in preserving valuable visual records of SGM’s development.
