Perak Soka Family and Friendship Day Promotes Healthy Ageing and Dementia Awareness

On 7 June 2026, SGM Perak organised a Soka Family and Friendship Day at its culture centre, featuring a health talk titled “Healthy Ageing with Key Nutrients” to raise awareness on healthy ageing and dementia care.

The session was delivered by registered dietitian Yeoh Chai Yen and PAC (Positive Approach to Care) trainer Calvin Chong. Chai Yen highlighted that healthy ageing goes beyond longevity, focusing instead on maintaining independence, bone strength and cognitive health. She noted that while ageing and genetics are unavoidable factors, lifestyle factors such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, mental wellbeing and disease prevention play a key role in overall health.

Calvin shared insights into Alzheimer’s disease, explaining common symptoms such as memory loss, personality changes and difficulties with daily tasks, while emphasising the importance of patience, empathy and emotional support in caregiving.

The talk concluded with a reminder to foster compassionate communities that support both patients and caregivers.
