Kedah Soka Community Days Promote Positive Approach to Life through Health Talks and Faith Experiences
In April 2026, SGM Kedah organised two Soka Community Day events, featuring health talks, experience sharing and culture performances. The programmes offered both practical knowledge and inspiration, attracting more than 330 participants in total.
The event held on 17 April at the SGM Kedah Culture Centre drew over 230 attendees. Dr Chuah Teng Hong and Dr Seet Jia Sheng spoke on managing the “three highs” – high blood pressure, high blood sugar and high cholesterol. They emphasised that prevention is better than cure and encouraged regular health screenings, including glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) tests, to monitor potential risks. They also advised adopting healthier lifestyle habits such as a balanced diet, reduced salt and sugar intake, and regular exercise to improve overall wellbeing.
In addition, men’s division member Kenneth Teh shared his experience in faith, explaining how he transformed workplace challenges into opportunities for growth through Nichiren Buddhism, and overcoming fear during health trials with strong faith, achieving a positive life transformation.
In his encouragement, SGM Kedah state leader Teh Chun Ann highlighted the importance of seeking timely medical treatment when facing illness, alongside maintaining a regular routine and healthy lifestyle. He stressed that faith helps cultivate a positive mindset and inner strength, enabling individuals to face challenges more constructively.
Promoting Rational Approaches to Medication Through Health Education
Earlier on 11 April, another Soka Community Day was held at the Sungai Petani Centre, with around 105 participants. Dr Lim Khian Giap delivered a talk on consuming medicine, analysing the differences between the way traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine work, and their respective supplements.
He encouraged the participants to make informed decisions based on individual needs, while also maintaining health through proper diet, exercise and lifestyle habits. Men’s division member Chan Paw Khon also shared his life transformation before and after embracing Nichiren Buddhism.
Through these two community events, participants were guided towards a more informed understanding of physical and mental wellbeing. The combination of health education and personal experiences also fostered a positive outlook in facing life’s challenges.
