Monash University Scholars Conduct Study Visit to MDPH

On 27 April 2026, as part of an academic research project, two lecturers from Monash University Malaysia – Dr Angeline Wong from the School of Pathways and Immersion, and Dr Azliyana Azhari from the School of Arts and Social Sciences – visited the Mentor and Disciple Peace Hall (MDPH) at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM for a study exchange focusing on climate change and religion.

They toured the “SGI President Ikeda: In Pursuit of Peace” exhibition on the 9th floor, where SGM representatives introduced the life and achievements of President Ikeda, as well as the various social contribution initiatives carried out by the Soka Gakkai based on its three founding pillars of peace, culture and education. Through the exhibition, the visitors gained a deeper understanding of the Buddhist principle of the oneness of life and its environment, and how the Soka Gakkai puts this philosophy into practice through environmental protection efforts and climate action initiatives, including community exhibitions related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr Angeline remarked that the exhibition’s rich historical materials and displays were both inspiring and informative. She noted that the visit deepened her understanding of the Soka Gakkai’s contributions to peacebuilding and social development, while also providing valuable reference materials for the research team. The exchange further enhanced mutual understanding on issues relating to climate change and religion, offering meaningful insights for future research and dialogue.
