Community Activities Promote Healthy Living and Sustainability
SGM in various states was involved in a range of community activities in July 2026, encouraging members and local residents to take positive action towards building harmonious, healthy and sustainable communities.
On 18 July, SGM Kedah held its Soka Community Day at the SGM Sungai Petani Centre, featuring a health talk delivered by Dr Lim Khian Giap. The event attracted around 120 attendees, who learnt about balanced nutrition and healthy lifestyle management.
Dr Lim shared practical principles of healthy eating, recommending that each meal consist of 25 percent carbohydrates, 25 percent high-quality protein and 50 percent fruit and vegetables. He also encouraged participants to develop healthy habits such as drinking sufficient water and keeping a daily food diary to support long-term wellbeing and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
On 19 July, 35 members from SGM Selangor participated in the “Go Green, Go Plogging” campaign organised by the Tzu Chi Foundation at the Taman Klang Jaya field, part of which is designated as the Ikeda Peace Park. Participants collected litter while walking, gathering more than 160 kilogrammes of recyclable materials and waste. In addition to leading the opening Zumba warm-up session, SGM provided logistical support, including electricity supply, VIP parking and public toilet facilities, while working alongside local residents to promote environmental conservation and create a cleaner community.
On the same day, SGM Sabah’s Tawau Region organised a clean-up at Taman Awam Muhibbah Tawau, with some 50 people taking part. Participants worked in groups to clean the park’s walkways, grassy areas and public facilities, contributing to the upkeep of the local environment. The activity also supported United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, demonstrating a shared commitment to sustainable community development.
Through these diverse activities, SGM continues to encourage members to engage actively with their local communities, working together with the public to care for society and protect the environment while contributing towards healthier, more harmonious and sustainable communities.
