On the day the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) entered into force, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) celebrated live from Studio 22.21, a fully-packed livestreamed event from Geneva, Switzerland.

Held on January 22, the event connected guests digitally from all over the world to commemorate the global entry into force of the historic treaty. The event comprised performances, interviews, in-depth analysis and reports from artists, politicians, academics and activists around the world.

Executive Director of ICAN, Beatrice Fihn Joanne Foo

SGM was also invited to respond to a few questions for the event. Representing SGM, Joanne Foo, Head of External Affairs and Communications, shared that SGM promotes nuclear disarmament education because they rob people’s right to life and that education is crucial especially among the youth, stressing that as agents of change and leaders of tomorrow, youth have the capacity to create a new culture of peace.
