Westward Transmission:
In January 1961, Shin’ichi Yamamoto begins his first tour of Asia, taking another step towards the westward transmission of Buddhism as prophesied by Nichiren. While in Hong Kong, he forms the first Soka Gakkai district outside Japan. Prior to his departure, he strove valiantly to encourage members in Japan.
India:
Shin’ichi visits India, the birthplace of Buddhism. Though there isn’t a single member there prays for the emergence of “Shin’ichi Yamamotos in countless tens, hundreds of thousands,” and vows to dedicate his life to making that happen.
The Buddha:
While at Bodhgaya, the place where Shakyamuni Buddha attained enlightenment, Shinichi Yamamoto’s thoughts turn to the life of this great sage who illuminated humankind with the vibrant light of his being.
Light of Peace:
Shin’ichi travels to Southeast Asia, where he visits Burma (now Myanmar), Thailand and Cambodia. He resolves as a Japanese citizen to pave the path for happiness and peace, and shares his vision to open a research institute for philosophy, culture and ethnic studies, as well as an institution dedicated to musical and cultural exchange.
