Women’s Peace Fiesta: Championing an Inclusive Future

The Kaho Group held the “Women’s Peace Fiesta – Building a Sustainable and Inclusive Future Together” on 1 November 2025 at the SGM Culture Centre during the Second National Kaho PICs Training Course. The event featured 30 “Living as Learning” interactive booths and two forums.

The “Living as Learning” booths – created after Kaho leaders spent two years studying Living as Learning: John Dewey in the 21st Century – transformed educational concepts into interactive experiences. Inspired by the profound exchange between Dewey scholars Jim Garrison and Larry Hickman and SGI President Ikeda in this book, the booths became the heart of the fiesta, with each state presenting creative exhibits that promoted themes such as education, social responsibility, diversity and sustainability.

The forum on inclusivity, attended by over 670 on-site and online participants, featured Kok Shiew Yenn, chairperson of the National Autism Society of Malaysia (Teluk Pulai) and mother of an autistic child; Jo Ann Chow, cofounder of EmployAble; Ashley Pang, founder of Molly Manners Malaysia and mother of a child with Down syndrome; and Assoc Prof Dr Subhashini Jayanath, consultant developmental and general paediatrician.. The speakers shared actionable insights on implementing inclusivity from medical, educational, familial and social perspectives.

Another forum on mental wellbeing drew more than 1,000 participants. Speakers included psychiatrist Dr Ling Shiao Ling, educator Ng Teng Yan and kindergarten principal Chan Foong Kuan. The session encouraged participants to foster a more compassionate society, beginning with self-awareness and empathy.
