On 26 May, a SGM delegation, led by General Director Koh Sia Feai and president Johnny Ng, paid a condolence visit to Tun Jeanne Abdullah, following the passing of her husband, Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who passed away on 14 April at the age of 85.
The SGM representatives conveyed heartfelt condolences and deep appreciation for Tun Abdullah’s contributions to the nation and society. Tun Jeanne expressed her gratitude for the visit and messages of support.
Letters of condolence were also sent by Soka Gakkai president Minoru Harada and Soka University Japan (SUJ), reflecting their high regard for Tun Abdullah’s leadership and dedication to peace.
Over the years, SGM had the honour of several meaningful encounters with Tun Abdullah and Tun Jeanne. Notably, in September 2009, SUJ conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Human Letters upon Tun Abdullah. In October 2016, Tun Jeanne, then Open University Malaysia (OUM) chancellor, officiated the “Discovering Beauty – The SGM Art Collection” exhibition at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM.
SGM deeply honours Tun Abdullah, a statesman remembered for his compassion, humility and integrity.
