On 11 March 2011, one of the most severe earthquakes in history and massive tsunami attacked the north-eastern region in Japan, which caused major disaster and the sacrifice of many lives. Based on the humanistic spirit of the Buddhist compassion to share the people’s suffering, Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) has organised several Special Prayer Sessions at its culture centres and community centres nationwide.

SGM also holds ‘Donation Campaign in Aid of the Japan Earthquake Victims’ among its members from 16 March 2011 (Wednesday) to 22 March (Tuesday). All donations will later be submitted to the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia for the people of Japan.

Soka Gakkai Internatonal (SGI) President Daisaku Ikeda sent his deepest condolences to the victims and families of those affected by the disaster and also thanked all those aiding in relief efforts. In one of his messages, SGI President Ikeda passionately encourages people of the affected area, “I am fervently praying and calling out to each of you: “Never be defeated! Have courage! Have hope!”
