SGM Joins National- and State-level Chinese New Year Celebrations

On February 13, 2021, the Negeri Sembilan branch of the National Department for Culture and Arts (NSJKKN) live-streamed a Chinese New Year celebration programme through its official Facebook page to celebrate this festive day with the Chinese citizens nationwide.

SGM Negeri Sembilan chairman Dato' Chong Khin Sang, who was invited as a guest, and Negeri Sembilan Women, Family and Welfare Committee chairman YB Nicole Tan Lee Koon together introduced some of the traditional Chinese customs and folktales to viewers. Dato' Chong also mentioned the implied meaning of the ox zodiac sign and wished everyone would gain great success through hard work.

The programme also showcased parts of “The Arts and Culture of the Chinese” culture performance organised by SGM Negeri Sembilan in 2019, apart from a lion dance performance by the SGM Kuala Lumpur Young Lion Martial Arts troupe. Other items included dance and song performances by NSJKKN and Chinese New Year greetings from people of all fields, enabling the viewers to experience the festive atmosphere of Chinese New Year celebrations even during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) continued its “open house” tradition and organised an online Chinese New Year celebration programme on February 20. The programme was opened by Prime Minister YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and was broadcasted through TV1 and live-streamed via MOTAC’s official Facebook page.

The programme showcased some of the highlighted performances from previous Chinese New Year celebrations, which included parts of “The Arts and Culture of the Chinese” performances. Istana Budaya also presented performances for the viewers. Once again, Dato' Chong was invited to deliver his Chinese New Year greetings.
