In October and November 2021, SGM organised 40 sessions of SGI Online Study Lecture around the country for some 32,000 leaders and members. This is the second time this year that SGI conducted an online study lecture by SGI study department leader Mr Masaaki Morinaka.
The study material used was “A Religion of Human Revolution,” a subseries in The Buddhism of the Sun – Illuminating the World lecture series by SGI President Ikeda, with “The Shared Struggle of Mentor and Disciple” and “It is the Heart That Is Important” as the main themes.
The participants studied Gosho passages such as “it is the heart that is important” and “if we do not harbour doubts in our hearts, we will as a matter of course attain Buddhahood.” Some participants were inspired to reevaluate their conviction of Nichiren Buddhism, while some were determined to deepen their faith so that they can continue facing and overcoming challenges in life.
Mr Morinaka also shared the significance of the shared struggle of mentor and disciple, as well as the importance of showing actual proofs. He then urged the participants to take the initiative in propagating the Law.
Teo Siao Hui, a young women’s division member from Sarawak, was determined to “change my attitude and share Buddhism with people to my heart’s content, so that both myself and others can be happy.” Meanwhile, Chew Yan Herng, a young men’s division member from Negeri Sembilan, has “regained the hope and courage in life to continue striving alongside my mentor.”
Also, Tan Tuck Mun, a women’s division member from Kuala Lumpur South, said that she has “deepened my understanding on the meaning of ‘the two ways of practice and study’ and will be more strict on my own Buddhist studies.” Ong Soon Nen, a men’s division member from Kuala Lumpur Wilayah, was motivated to find a “balance between study and practice, and continue walking on the path of kosen-rufu through strengthening my faith.”
Towards 2030, the participants were encouraged to deepen their faith through the spirit of oneness of mentor and disciple, and strive to foster capable people while creating their own victorious drama of human revolution.
