The SGM entrance-level study examination was held on 17 December 2023, at 39 venues nationwide, with a total of 649 examinees in participation.

The syllabus covered the writings of Nichiren Daishonin titled “Reply to the Lay Priest Soya,” “The Actions of the Votary of the Lotus Sutra” and “On Repaying Debts of Gratitude,” as well as the basic principles and practice of Nichiren Buddhism published in The Basics of Buddhism.

A message from SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai was read out in all venues. Mr Koh praised the examinees for their seeking spirit and encouraged them to be committed to continuous learning in the study of Buddhism.

One examinee expressed determination to face life challenges courageously after gaining a deeper understanding of Nichiren Buddhism. Another examinee, who is not an SGM member, found appeal in Nichiren Daishonin’s teachings that emphasise self-reflection instead of worshipping deities.
