A devastating earthquake had struck the Caribbean nation of Haiti in January 2010. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands were killed and three million people were affected by the disaster.

On behalf of SGM, Secretary-General Koh Sia Feai donated RM10,000 to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) 2010 Haiti Earthquake Children’s Appeal on March 16, 2010. It was received by Mr. Cheah Yew Hee, Head of Operations, UNICEF.

SGM also donated RM10,000 to the Malaysian Medical Relief Society (MERCY)’s Haiti Relief Fund. SGM General Director presented the cheque to Ir Hj Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin, Executive Director of MERCY Malaysia on March 17, 2010. The funds collected will be used to support Mercy Malaysia’s partner, Medical Emergency Relief International (Merlin) in their emergency medical relief activities in Haiti.
