On December 23, 2020, SGM was invited by popular Chinese radio station AiFm to speak on “The Journey Towards Nuclear Disarmament,” where hosts Shu Leen and Jing Cheng (JC) interviewed SGM Secretary-General Tan Leng through the phone. This interview was also live-streamed on RTM’s official website and AiFM’s Facebook page.

Tan Leng first introduced the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), the first-ever international treaty to ban nuclear weapons, which entered into force in January. He also explained Malaysia’s standpoint on nuclear weapons.

Later, he also introduced the origins of SGM’s peace activities, which has its roots in second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda’s declaration against nuclear weapons on September 8, 1957. He further shared some of the peace initiatives initiated by SGM over the years.

Tan Leng also answered several questions such as the significance of TPNW in the international community, challenges of realising a world free of nuclear weapons, and peace actions that can be carried out in daily life. He stressed that building peace starts from one person, which will eventually spread to others. The interview can be accessed at https://www.facebook.com/AiFM.Malaysia/videos/422756225582550
