Run for Peace Press Conference
Over 70,000 Peace Lovers Registered Nationwide

On 6 August, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, SGM held a press conference for Run for Peace 2025 at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM.

In his welcome address, SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai announced that Run for Peace 2025, scheduled in September, has drawn over 70,000 registrations nationwide. Reflecting the runs slogan, Peace Starts with Me – ACT NOW for SDGs,” Mr Koh highlighted that SGM will also organise a series of community activities – including beach cleanups, gotong-royong campaigns, blood donation drives and recycling workshops – to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) secretary-general DatoDanial Iskandar Abdul Rahman pledged MRCSs support for the run, noting that MRCS will provide 24 ambulances and deploy 200 trained first aid volunteers across various locations.

Malaysian Recycling Alliance (MAREA) CEO Roberto Benetello shared that MAREA will mobilise its network of collectors to gather recyclable materials in conjunction with the run.

MY Clean Beach founder Geeva Samynathan further emphasised the runs role as an educational platform, raising public awareness and inspiring collective action towards a greener future.

Also addressing the press conference were Ministry of Youth and Sports national fitness director Dharzuky Daud @ Zakaria, United Nations in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam communications and advocacy head Ahmad Hafiz Osman, and International Islamic University Malaysia Peace, Dialogue and Xenophobia Studies Centre director Assoc Prof Dr Danial Yusof. Also present was SGM president Johnny Ng.

Since its inception in 2005, the biennial Run for Peace has attracted a cumulative total of 400,000 participants, steadily growing into one of SGMs most impactful peace initiatives.
