In support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SGM has continued to engage communities through a series of health and educational initiatives in April and May.
On 27 April, SGM Pahang, in collaboration with Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan, organised a blood donation drive at the SGM Pahang Culture Centre. A total of 104 bags of blood were collected to help replenish the hospital’s supply—an important contribution towards promoting good health and well-being in line with SDG 3.
On 1 and 25 May, SGM Kedah and Sarawak branches participated in charity bazaars held by Sin Min Independent High School in Alor Setar and Chung Hua Middle School No. 4 in Batu Kawa, Kuching, respectively. The SGM Sarawak’s team also set up a booth to introduce the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Run for Peace, while guiding the public in making eco-bricks to promote a sustainable lifestyle.
Health talks were held on 4 May at the SGM Muar Centre in Johor and SGM Perak Culture Centre, and on 18 May at the SGM Melaka Culture Centre. The Muar session addressed uric acid, gout and colorectal cancer; the Perak session focused on stroke prevention; and in Melaka, doctors from the SGM Beacon Group explained the symptoms, risk factors and prevention of heart disease. They also demonstrated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and taught participants how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). These efforts further SDG 3 by enhancing public health literacy.
On 4 May, the SGM Batu Pahat Centre hosted a legal talk on scam prevention, offering practical guidance on avoiding scams and stressed the importance of staying vigilant. This programme aligns with SDG 16: peace, justice and strong institutions by helping to combat crime.
