Abstract Art Exhibition Highlights Power of
Cultural Exchange and Peace

The “International Abstract Art Exhibition – 2025 Malaysia” was held at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM from 15 November–21 December 2025, celebrating cultural exchange and peace. 

Jointly organised by SGM and the Malaysian Modern and Contemporary Art Academy (MCAA), with support from the Asia International Artists Alliance (AIAA), the exhibition showcased 61 artworks by 33 artists from various countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Mongolia and South Korea. 

The opening was officiated by then National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA) rector Prof. Dr Tan Awang Besar on behalf of Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister YB Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing. An art catalogue was also launched at the opening ceremony.

During the opening ceremony, SGM treasurer-general Chai Koh Pong noted that SGM believes strongly in the power of art to elevate the human spirit and foster harmony in society. MCAA adviser Dr Foo Yong Kong praised SGM’s commitment to promoting culture as a path to peace, and he, along with MCAA president cum AIAA chairperson Richard Wong and artist Muhammad Rojana-Udomsat, each presented an artwork to SGM.

In his speech, Prof. Dr Tan Awang Besar said the participation of artists from multiple countries embodies the spirit of unity in diversity. After officiating the exhibition, he also visited President Ikeda’s photography exhibition in the same building.

Educational tours of the abstract art exhibition were conducted for students from New Era University College and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) (Sungai Long campus) on 27 and 28 November respectively. Dr Foo later conducted a guided tour of the exhibition on 14 December.
