To mark the 106th anniversary of Chinese-language theatre in Malaysia, SGM collaborated with the Sun Theatre to coorganise “Rooting and Blossoming: The International Forum on the 106th Anniversary of Malaysian Chinese Drama” on 1 August at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM.
The forum brought together 70 scholars from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia, who presented their research findings on various aspects of theatre arts.
In his welcome address, SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai said that SGM was honoured to coorganise the forum and expressed his hope that the exchange would serve as a bridge of friendship among scholars while contributing to the further development of Asian theatre.
The Sun Theatre chairperson Sim Kok Meng, in his opening remarks, emphasised the significance of the event in gathering diverse perspectives and introducing new themes, injecting fresh vitality into the theatre community.
Presentations addressed an array of themes, such as wartime literature and art, Malaysia–Taiwan theatre exchanges, and Malaysian–Singaporean theatre during the Cold War.
