At the beginning of this year, SGM Young Women Division Leader (YWD) Ng Lay Kian announced that the YWD will be holding Kayo Chant-and-Chat meetings throughout the nation several times this year. She urged all YWD members to invite their friends to this meeting and to make it an occasion filled with great joy.

In April, the first of the chant-and-chat gatherings were held, with full support from the other divisions. YWD members and their friends made these gatherings an event to strengthen camaraderie and encourage each other.

The theme for the April gathering was “The Power of Chanting Daimoku”, and participants shared experiences of overcoming obstacles and securing victory through chanting abundant daimoku and putting SGI President Ikeda’s guidance into practice. Participants resolved to create wave after wave of victories to respond to their mentor.

Other than sharing experiences, participants also carried out various activities such as making ornaments, Mother’s Day cards and even snacks. The gatherings were held in a heartwarming and joyous atmosphere, inspiring all to share their feelings openly.

The Kayo chant-and-chat gatherings achieved several breakthroughs, including being held for the first time in Perlis, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu, and achieving new heights in participation in Kedah, Kuala Lumpur and Pahang.

In conclusion, 147 Koyakai Chant and Chat meetings were held with 2,633 young women attending. Among them, 221 were new friends and 30 of them became new SGM members. This round of gatherings also saw 900 YWD members officially become part of the sixth class of the Ikeda Kayo-kai.

In Buddhism, the Chinese character for “eight” conveys the meaning “to open” and that women open the gateway to happiness. The SGM YWD will continue expanding the ranks of the Kayo-kai, and aim to achieve a participation of 8,000 in the next cycle of gatherings!
