On May 3, 2019, Soka Gakkai Day, 43 district-and-above youth leaders from Greater Kuala Lumpur Area, Kelantan and Terengganu (part of the Eastern Area), Kedah and Selangor participated in the “I Seek Sensei” training course held at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM.

The agenda of this training course included visiting the Victory Room, Shared Struggle Room and Mentor and Disciple Room in the SGM Mentor and Disciple Hall (MDPH). Following this, the participants performed gongyo and chanted daimoku infused with a great vow for the sake of advancing kosen-rufu in the Mentor and Disciple Room.

In his speech, SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai stated that youth should never forget the spirit of mentor and disciple. Mr Koh quoted a poem SGI President Ikeda presented to his mentor Josei Toda: “As I serve my mentor / in the old mystic bond, / Unchanged will I myself remain, / though others may change,” stressing that youth must be steadfast in their resolve and never deviate from the path of kosen-rufu.

Nicholas Lee Jiann Yang from Terengganu said that through this journey of seeking the mentor, he gained a deeper understanding of the significance of May 3 and a deeper appreciation of the three founding presidents’ efforts.

Meanwhile, Ong Jia Wen from Kedah mentioned that it was her first time visiting the MDPH. She said it made her realise that she has to constantly reflect on herself and she is now determined to become a role model youth who practices the spirit of mentor and disciple in her district.
