From July 31 to September 11, 2021, the SGM High School Division (HSD) held “Light of Hope” training sessions and saw participation from 295 HSD members and 236 HSD coordinators nationwide.

In the four sessions, leaders quoted Gosho passages given by SGI President Ikeda to the future division members, exploring topics such as the Buddhist concept of life and death and the path of mentor and disciple. They also learned the significance of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” and the importance of peace.

HSD members Jeslyn Lee Ai Jhyun, Vincent Ma Kai Yik, Phua Yu Ning and youth division member Phang Kha Wong shared their inspiring experiences of achieving human revolution, which saw them achieving their dreams and even overcoming the loss of loved ones.

SGM men’s division leader Dr Christopher Boey, women’s division leader May Chan and youth division leader Andrew Looi concluded the training series by sharing their own experiences in faith and giving warm encouragement, hoping that all participants would grow into capable people who would contribute to society and kosen-rufu.

Participants made enthusiastic responses such as, “the content was very touching,” “I learnt how to face life and death,” “it encouraged me to work harder to realise my dreams,” “will remind myself not to be complacent,” “encouraged me to try new things,” “rekindled enthusiasm for self-cultivation” and “will work harder to nurture myself.”
