Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Flags Off First Run at Alor Setar; Over 2,000 Peace Lovers Run for Peace!

On 5 September 2025, some 2,200 peace lovers from diverse ethnicities and backgrounds gathered at Taman Jubli Emas in Alor Setar, Kedah to kick off Run for Peace 2025. Together with Kelantan on this day, they launched this year’s Run, which will take place at 22 locations nationwide.

The run was flagged off at 7:45 a.m. by YTM Tunku Temenggong Kedah Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

A drizzle could not stop the runners from completing the six-kilometre journey, who took decisive action in spreading the message of peace, hope and sustainable development.

In her address, Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz lauded SGM’s untiring efforts in promoting peace, education and the Sustainable Development Goals. She then took part in making eco mudballs, encouraging people to start with themselves and build a community that thrives on coexistence.

This event was co-organised by SGM Kedah and the Kedah Youth and Sports Department (JBSN Kedah), with support from the Ministry of National Unity, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah and E-Idaman.

Guests include Alor Setar City Council community development director Afizudin Dato’ Paduka Haji Mohd Saad, JBSN deputy director (sports development) Mohd Hanaffi A. Rahman, and Malaysian Red Crescent Society secretary-general Dato’ Danial Iskandar Abdul Rahman.

Sungai Petani hosts the second Kedah run on 6 September.

More on Run for Peace 2025

First held in 2005, Run for Peace (RFP) is a biennial, non-competitive event that has attracted over 400,000 participants nationwide over the past two decades. Embracing the slogan, “Peace Starts with Me! ACT NOW for SDGs!”, the event highlights the message of peace in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and encourages Malaysians to take concrete action for a better future. Throughout September, more than 70,000 people are expected to join the run across 22 locations nationwide.

This year also commemorates the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and Run for Peace seeks to advance the SDGs by fostering a culture of peace, treasuring life, embracing diversity and protecting the environment for future generations.
