Sungai Petani Run for Peace Draws Over 1,100 in Spreading Message of Peace and Sustainable Development
On 6 September 2025, SGM Kedah’s second Run for Peace event was held at Riverfront City in Sungai Petani, attracting over 1,100 participants of diverse backgrounds. The run was flagged off at 6:55 a.m., with everyone completing the 5.7-kilometre route together in a united effort to promote the values of peace, harmony and sustainable development.
The event was co-organised with the Kedah Youth and Sports Department (JBSNK), with support from the Ministry of National Unity, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah and E-Idaman.
Kedah Youth and Sports Department deputy director Mohd Hanaffi A. Rahman flagged off the run, and later joined volunteers in handing out drinks to runners at the water station. He also took photographs with participants, giving a friendly, heartwarming vibe to the occasion.
Towards the end of the day’s programme, over 50 youths performed a lively dance titled “Peace Begins with Me.” A special moment came when the melody of “Satu Malaysia” filled the air and a group of Malay participants spontaneously sang along. Their voices resounded across the venue, vividly embodying the power of peace and unity.
In addition to the run, various interactive and educational booths were set up, including games and workshops for participants to experience eco-friendly practices firsthand.
