SGI Youth from Four Countries Visit SISM, Forging Cross-Border, Inter-Generational Friendships with Young Global Citizens

On 30 January 2026, SGI youth representatives from South Korea, Japan, India and Thailand visited Soka International School Malaysia (SISM) for an exchange transcending national borders and generations.

The exchange opened with a video showcasing SISM campus life, followed by an energetic hip-hop performance by the student dance team that instantly ignited the atmosphere.

In welcoming the delegation, SISM principal Dr Wendy Yee introduced the school and expressed hope that the exchange would deepen connections among young people from different countries, help more youth understand the school’s philosophy, and inspire everyone to work together for world peace and human happiness.

Miyuki Horiguchi, SGI young women’s division leader, then shared her educational journey from Soka High School in Japan to Soka University of America. She spoke candidly on confronting challenges arising from differences in culture and language, and how guidance and encouragement from the founder Daisaku Ikeda helped her regain confidence. She emphasised her firm belief that education and sincere friendship are the driving forces for connecting the future, fulfilling one’s mission and realising world peace.

The exchange concluded with a group photo, followed by a campus tour led by the students. The participants enjoyed lunch together as they continued their heartfelt conversations and nurtured the spirit of international friendship.
