Selangor Run for Peace Marks 20 Years of Spreading the Message of Peace

The Selangor Run for Peace was held on 7 September 2025 at Taman Klang Jaya field in Klang, where part of this field is the Ikeda Peace Park. This year’s event is especially significant as Klang, the birthplace of Run for Peace, celebrates the 20th anniversary of the event.

Since its inception in 2005, Run for Peace has aimed to inspire the public to embody the spirit of peace in daily life. In recent years, it has promoted taking concrete actions towards realising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s event drew more than 10,000 peace enthusiasts for the eight-kilometre run, all of whom chanted in unison: “Peace starts with me! Act now for SDGs!”

Selangor Menteri Besar YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari flagged off the run. In his speech prior to the flag-off, he lauded the aims of Run for Peace and praised SGM for its unwavering efforts and commitment over the past two decades. He noted that the Run for Peace has become an important platform for fostering national unity and spreading the ideals of peace. This is his second time flagging off Run for Peace, having first done so as a state executive councillor at the same venue in July 2017.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin, accompanied by SGM leaders and other distinguished guests, also visited the Ikeda Peace Park, located on a 720 square metre site within the Taman Klang Jaya field. The park features peace inscriptions by SGI President Ikeda in Bahasa Melayu and English. He expressed his support for elevating the Taman Klang Jaya field as a site for peace, symbolising the message of harmony and peaceful coexistence.

At 7:50 a.m., Dato’ Seri Amirudin blasted the horn and set the event in motion, with the 10,000 participants setting off, fuelled by the spirit of peace. They dignitaries then proceeded to the SGM Selangor Culture Centre opposite the field to visit the “Seeds of Hope and Action” exhibition and attend a media conference. They unanimously affirmed the vision of the event and commended the discipline and dedication of the SGM youth division members.

SGM culture groups such as the dance, martial arts and gymnastic groups presented energetic and inspiring performances. The atmosphere was further enlivened when the Run for Peace theme song, “Peace Starts with Me,” was presented with a modern dance by SGM youths.

A variety of side activities enriched the atmosphere, including face-painting, a retrospective showcase of past Run for Peace events, SDGs-themed workshops, a pre-loved book corner, and free health screenings for women, while game stalls co-sponsored by 361 Degrees Malaysia drew lively participation from the public.

Run for Peace brought together people from different ethnicities and backgrounds, with smiles lighting up every face – an inspiring reflection of Malaysia’s spirit of harmony and unity.
