Rainbow After Storm – 1,500 in Keningau Strive as Emissaries of Peace
Despite heavy winds and rain raging from midnight till dawn, the Keningau Run for Peace organised by SGM Sabah on 7 September received an enthusiastic response from 1,500 participants.
Keningau District Officer Peter Jonu Moinjil flagged off the run, with participants setting off in high spirits, embarking on a journey of peace while advancing towards a brighter and more sustainable future.
When interviewed, Peter praised SGM for organising the event in a safe, orderly and professional manner. He also said it is important to involve as many as possible to ensure a sustainable community, and that all of us should start taking initiative to build a better future.
The run also featured a variety of creative SDG-themed exhibition booths, as well as eye-catching displays made from recycled bottles and waste material. Other activities included making fruit enzymes and interactive games, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.
Also present were Keningau District National Unity and Integration Department officer Madavan Makandran and other guests.
The event also received support from the Keningau District health clinic and dental clinic, which provided participants with free health and dental checkups, benefitting the community.

First launched in 2005, Run for Peace (RFP) is a biennial, non-competitive event that has attracted over 400,000 participants nationwide over the past two decades. Carrying the slogan, “Peace Starts with Me! ACT NOW for SDGs!”, the event highlights the message of peace in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and encourages Malaysians to take concrete action for a better future. Throughout September, more than 70,000 people are expected to join the run across 22 locations nationwide.
This year also commemorates the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing, and Run for Peace seeks to advance the UN SDGs by fostering a culture of peace, treasuring life, embracing diversity and protecting the environment for future generations.
