Student Guides Spark Environmental Dialogue with 433 Teachers and Fellow Students in Perak School through SoHA

On 2 and 3 December, SJKC Wan Hwa 2 in Menglembu, Perak, hosted the “Seeds of Hope and Action” (SoHA) exhibition in its hall, attracting some 433 teachers and students over two days, with 13 students acting as guides. The guides confidently led visitors through the SoHA contents, explaining key topics such as environmental crises, endangered species, climate change and the core principles of the Earth Charter. This encouraged participants to reflect on the relationship between human beings and nature, and demonstrated the students’ growth in communication and presentation skills.

SoHA highlighted the impact of human activity on the natural environment, leaving a deep impression on many teachers. They shared that environmental challenges often stem from everyday lifestyle choices, and meaningful change can begin with simple actions, such as conserving resources, reducing waste, protecting wildlife and adopting more sustainable habits. The guided tours assisted teachers in observing the students’ personal growth, who noted that when given opportunities, students expressed themselves clearly, discovered their potential and developed a strong sense of responsibility through real-life experience.

According to the school, the exhibition was designed to provide students with a platform to showcase their abilities, raise awareness of environmental protection and sustainable development across the campus, and foster a culture of shared learning among teachers and students. It strengthened viewers’ understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while the student guides opened up opportunities for discussion and reflection post-visit. Teachers agreed that protecting the environment is not merely a concept, but a way of life that begins with small, everyday choices, and that these consistent efforts can become a powerful force for positive change.
