Perak Run for Peace Inspires 8,000 Runners towards Peace and Sustainability

SGM Perak successfully held Run for Peace on September 7 at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, drawing an impressive turnout of 8,000 enthusiastic participants who gathered as early as 5:00 a.m. for the six-kilometre run.

With the slogan “Peace starts with me! Act NOW for SDGs!”, the aim of the event is to promote peace and build a sustainable future.

At 7:35 a.m., Perak state executive councillor YB Sandrea Ng Shy Ching officiated the flag-off, after which she proceeded to visit the SDG-related booths, joined by other invited guests.

When interviewed, YB Ng praised SGM for its efforts in promoting peace and the SDGs. She urged people to become peace ambassadors and continue to spread the ideal of peace.

Guests included Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (Ipoh) chairperson Dato’ Dr Fadzli Cheah and Perak Chinese Assembly Hall president Datuk Kwan Foh Kwai.

In addition to the run, participants enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, including face-painting, health awareness programmes, pickleball lessons, and a 361 sports game.  The venue was also adorned with creative eco-decorations, such as an arch and a striking jellyfish structure crafted from recycled plastic bottles.  A vibrant wave design made from colourful bottle caps further highlighted the event’s sustainability theme.

Goodie bags were given to runners after completing their run.  Many stayed back to visit the booths and posed for photographs at the decorative displays, making Run for Peace 2025 a joyful and meaningful success.
