Nearly 1,500 Gather in Muar for Run for Peace

The morning of 7 September 2025 greeted the Muar Run for Peace event with a drizzle. But it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the nearly 1,500 participants and event staff who gathered at SJKC Chung Hwa Ketiga for the biennial event. The participants aim to embody the slogan “Peace Starts with Me!” and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The skies cleared before the flag-off, and the run proceeded smoothly in a spirited atmosphere.

The opening ceremony was attended by Muar District Officer Tuan Haji Zainal Eran, along with Bakri MP YB Tan Hong Pin, Bentayan assemblyperson YB Ng Yak Howe, Tangkak assemblyperson YB Ee Chin Li, former Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa, SJKC Chung Hwa Ketiga principal Loi Kia Hee and the school’s Parent-Teacher Association chairperson Tan Chi Yi, and Muar Run for Peace organising chairperson Koo Keng Beng.

In his remarks, Tuan Haji Zainal praised SGM’s efforts in spreading the ideals of peace and the SDGs in the society through hosting educational exhibitions, cleanup activities and others.

The ceremony featured the unveiling of a creative blue wheel installation. On its left side, 17 rotating cubes symbolised the 17 SDGs, while the right displayed a wheel bearing the Run for Peace poster — signifying the shared journey of peace and sustainable development.

The venue also offered various interactive zones, including photo booths, game areas and the “Seeds of Hope and Action” exhibition. The event brought together runners across Malaysia’s diverse communities, drawing many youths and families, and embodying the warmth of harmony in diversity.
