Miri Run for Peace Draws 1,5000 for a Vision of Peace

On the morning of 14 September, the Miri Run for Peace organised by SGM Sarawak flagged off from the Miri City Hall, attracting enthusiastic participation from some 1,500 people from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The event aimed to advance the spirit of peace, strengthen interethnic unity, and promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event was officiated by Sarawak Minister of Transport YB Dato’ Sri Lee Kim Shin, who led participants in completing the symbolic peace route. Distinguished guests included Chia Kah Furng, representing the state Deputy Ministers of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, as well as Miri mayor YB Adam Yii Siew Sang.

In his address, Dato’ Sri Lee urged all citizens to treasure Malaysia’s current harmony, respond proactively to the call of building “Malaysia Madani,” and work together to create a peaceful and sustainable nation, starting with oneself.

The event featured a rich variety of interactive activities and exhibitions, including peace-themed temporary tattoos, an SDGs stamp activity, the “Seeds of Hope and Action” exhibition, and an environmental landfill exhibition. Participants also penned messages on a peace message board – symbolising collective determination to safeguard the earth and peace – and walked through a peace arch built from recycled bottles, representing the harmony of environmental protection and peace.

The run also highlighted heartwarming interethnic and intergenerational scenes. Families participating hand in hand, children running for the first time, and enthusiastic seniors all shared the same track, embodying a collective vision of peace.
