Lahad Datu Run for Peace Draws Over 1,200 Participants, Kicks Off with Message of Peace

After a two years, the Lahad Datu Run for Peace by SGM Sabah, supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, was held on 14 September 14 at Kompleks Sukan Lahad Datu.

The 6.5-kilometre, carrying the slogan “Peace Starts with Me! Act NOW for SDGs!”,was flagged off by Lahad Datu District Office chief clerk Mohd Hadzrul Tahamit, representing Lahad Datu District Officer Firuz Idzualdeen. Also present was Irwan Iskandar, an officer from the Lahad Datu office of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

More than just a joyful run, the event carried the mission of promoting the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reminding the public to care for the environment and our planet, while encouraging meaningful action.

The organiser also prepared a series of SDG-related activities. Youth members served as guides, their spirited voices drawing the attention of many participants, who eagerly listened and learned more about the SDGs, deepening public awareness and action.

The event took place amid a major power disruption caused by the collapse of a high transmission tower in the east coast of Sabah, which includes Lahad Datu. However, Run for Peace managed to avoid any disruption.

This spirit of embodying “Peace Starts with Me – Start Taking Action” through concrete efforts is truly admirable. It is hoped that this series of events will continue to inspire every participant to take positive action in their daily lives, contributing to the realisation of peace and sustainable development for all.
