Run for Peace Sparks Unity and Sustainability in Kuching
The Kuching Run for Peace, organised by SGM Sarawak, brought together some 2,200 participants at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) on 7 September.
The five-kilometre run was graced and flagged off by Sarawak deputy premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government in Sarawak. Other guests included MBKS deputy mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili and Padawan Municipal Council chairperson Tan Kai.
At 6:40 a.m., after a symbolic lighting ceremony at the “peace sculpture” prepared by the organiser, the run was flagged off and cheers filled the air as runners took off.
Side activities such as an exhibition, face painting, learning to make ecobricks, and performances with music instruments crafted from recycled materials further enriched the event with messages of creativity and sustainability.
The Kuching Run for Peace concluded with joy and unity, standing not only as a sporting event but also a peace movement, inspiring participants to spread the values of peace, sustainability and unity in society.
