SGM and Kloth Circularity Promote Textile Circularity for a Sustainable Future
SGM partnered with the women-led social enterprise Kloth Circularity to organise an educational online environmental webinar, “Threads of CHANGE: Exploring Textiles & Clothing Circularity for a Sustainable Future,” via Zoom on 9 November 2025. A total of 161 participants joined the event.
The webinar was led by Sherlina Melissa from Kloth Circularity, who began by reframing fashion not just as personal style, but as a deep form of cultural expression, creativity and identity. Sherlina presented striking global statistics on textile waste and illustrated the full lifecycle of a garment – from production to final disposal – to expose the significant environmental and social costs hidden behind everyday clothing choices.
She delved into the industry’s deeper issues, highlighting labour exploitation and structural safety failures tragically highlighted by the Rana Plaza collapse in Bangladesh, as well as ecological damage and community burdens caused by the massive influx of discarded clothing into African countries such as Ghana. “Change must begin with consumers,” she emphasised, issuing a powerful call to the public to make more conscious and responsible choices in their daily lives.
Sherlina also introduced Kloth Circularity’s sustainability initiatives, including clothing collection, textile repurposing and promoting sustainable fashion. She exhorted participants to immediately put the “Kloth’s 5R Circular Economy of Textiles” into practice to reduce textile waste through concrete action: Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle.
The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer segment, where participants actively shared their thoughts and questions, bringing the inspiring webinar to a warm and motivating close.
