16 March Kosen-rufu Day Online Commemorative Meeting – Youth Renew Pledge to Fulfil Mission of Kosen-rufu
On 16 March 2026, SGM held a nationwide online meeting commemorating 16 March Kosen-rufu Day, with over 1,500 participants attending. At the outset, SGM young men’s division leader Siow Yoon Kee explained the day’s profound significance, noting that 68 years ago, second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda entrusted the mission of achieving kosen-rufu to the youth division. He called on youth to never leave the organisation and strive all-out to realise world peace.
Next, young men’s division member Liew Wen Yong from Negeri Sembilan and young women’s division member Saw Bee Yen from Perak shared their shakubuku experiences and victory reports. Their heartfelt accounts inspired participants to triumph in their daily lives and give their utmost in shakubuku efforts.
Following this, SGM young women’s division leader Koo Wei Qian reported that approximately 4,700 youths remain to reach the 8,000-youth shakubuku goal. Still, new youths continue to join daily through the unwavering efforts of members nationwide. She also announced the official launch of the “MY GEN SOKA” Instagram platform and the “My Soka Journey” webpage, encouraging more youths to take part in the “My Five Challenges” movement to strengthen faith and compose victorious experiences.
In his concluding remarks, SGM youth division leader Andrew Looi emphasised that the mission of kosen-rufu must be accomplished by the youth division, highlighting that the various large-scale activities held over the past year served as platforms for engaging youth in shakubuku. He further stressed that 16 March is the day to make a vow, while 3 May is the time to fulfil it, and proposed three key strategies: taking the initiative, strengthening awareness of the time, and upholding the mentor–disciple spirit. He urged all youth to commit wholeheartedly to the movement.
Finally, SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai encouraged participants to uphold the stand-alone spirit and cited the examples set by the three founding presidents of the Soka Gakkai, who led the organisation to become a model for a world religion. He underscored that engaging in shakubuku to repay one’s debt of gratitude to our mentor and to fulfil the mission of the Bodhisattvas of the Earth is a deeply meaningful and joyful practice. He called on all to advance with firm determination towards achieving the goal of the 8,000-youth shakubuku.
