June is a particularly significant month for the women of Soka, and so we would like to take a look at women’s contributions to poetry.
The first recorded woman poet and author, Enheduanna, was a Sumerian priestess and princess who lived some 4,300 years ago. The daughter of Sargon of Akkad, she wrote various works, the most significant of which is The Exaltation of Innanna, a hymn to the moon god Nanna. It is also believed that Enheduanna signed her name to this work and others. Her works are known for establishing the personal “I” in literature, rather than describing...
