很久很久以前，在一座美丽的森林里，住着一只善良又充满爱心的兔子。森林里的动物都很喜欢它。它有三个好朋友―猴子、小狗和水獭，大家一起快乐地生活。
有一年，森林发生严重干旱，河水渐渐干涸，果实越来越少，动物们寻找食物也变得困难。
一天，兔子对朋友们说：
“明天是布施日。如果有饥饿的人来，请把食物分享给他吧！”
大家都开心地点头答应。
第二天，帝释天听说了这件事，心想：
“连自己吃的食物都不够了，它们真的愿意分享吗？”
于是，帝释天化身成一位年老的修行者来到森林。
他先来到水獭家。
“我已经三天没吃东西了，可以给我一些食物吗？”
水獭马上拿出鱼。
“请您享用吧！”
接着，小狗把自己找到的食物送给修行者；猴子也把所有芒果拿出来分享。
最后，修行者来到兔子家。
