Single-mindedly Seek the Buddha
In “Letter to Gijo-bo,” the Daishonin refers to the verse section of the “Life Span” (16th) chapter of the Lotus Sutra that we recite each day in gongyo as follows:
The verse section of the [“Life Span”] chapter states, “… single-mindedly desiring to see the Buddha, not hesitating even if it costs them their lives.” [LSOC16, pg 271] As a result of this passage, I have revealed the Buddhahood in my own life. …
I, Nichiren, say that “single” stands for myo, or mystic, “mind” for ho, or law, “desiring” for ren, or lotus, “see”...
