They say that if one uses the sinews of a lion to make strings for a koto [harp] and plucks them, then strings made from the sinews of other animals will automatically snap, even though no one cuts them. The Buddha’s preaching of the Law is called the lion’s roar, and the Lotus Sutra is the foremost roar of the lion.
